End of Life/Palliative Care Training: “Your Caring Presence: Supporting Residents and Families at End of Life”
Who should participate?
Direct care workers (such as nurses aides, certified nursing assistants, home health aides and other care assistants) who work in nursing homes, home health agencies and community organizations.
What is the purpose of the program?
To enhance the knowledge and skills of direct care workers related to end-of-life and palliative care issues of their patients/residents. See more about this.
How will this program benefit me & my organization?
This program will raise the awareness and sensitivity of direct care workers to issues patients/residents face at end of life and how to appropriately address those issues, which should result in greater competence, confidence and job satisfaction among direct care workers and in better quality of care for patients/residents.
Program Length: 8 hours
Cost: FREE - the cost of your participation in this program is being paid through grant funding by the Workforce Investment Board of Lancaster County

- Full day classroom trainings
- CD-ROM for self-study or small group use (note: modules on the CD-ROM are 15-20 minutes each and can be completed one at a time over a period of time)
- Train-the-Facilitator program to prepare senior NA's, staff educators & others to facilitate small group discussions using the CD-ROM
What is covered in the program?
The curriculum for this program was developed by Hospice of Lancaster County based on the standards outlined in the National Consensus Project for Quality Palliative Care by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
