Staff Educator Programs and Resources - Training

3P Teambuilding, Communication and Problem Solving Train-the-Trainer

Who should participate?
Experienced educators who work in a long term care setting or who are interested in teaching the Coaching Approach to Supervision in community-based or residential care settings. We encourage teams of two educators to attend together where possible.

What is the purpose of the program?
To prepare trainers to teach the 3P Teambuilding, Communication and Problem Solving course to direct care workers.

How will this program benefit me & my organization?
Once you complete this Train-the-Trainer program, you will be able to teach the 1 day 3P Teambuilding, Communication and Problem Solving program to direct care staff in your facility.

This teambuilding program for direct care workers is based on the same language and principles as the Coaching Approach to Supervision program. This should help to further "infuse" the coaching supervision approach within organizations that add the teambuilding program for direct care workers.

Long-term care employers can increase their success in retaining direct care workers by providing “soft-skills” training to these workers. These “soft-skills” include problem-solving, communication, cooperation, goals-setting and teamwork. Direct care workers use these skills on a daily basis in addressing unexpected situations, responding to a resident's health crisis, working with other staff or communicating with individuals who may be demanding

Of course, nurses and managers also need these skills - and they are addressed in the Coaching Approach to Supervision curriculum which many of your nursing supervisors have completed. Research has shown that the most effective way to address caregiving issues is by supporting and developing the whole caregiving team - including direct care workers and licensed staff. Thus, the combination of the Coaching Approach to Supervision training for nursing supervisors and the 3P Communication and Problem Solving Skills training for direct care workers will provide both managers and front line staff tools necessary to create smooth working relationships both internally and with residents/clients.

Program Length:
This Train-the-Trainer program is a total of 1 day.
